Art Gallery to Host Acclaimed Sculptor Michael Aurbach Nov. 5-30
by Sean Flynt
Samford’s Art Gallery will present the work of nationally-acclaimed sculptor Michael Aurbach Nov. 5–30, with a reception and artist’s talk Nov. 5, 4–6 p.m. in the gallery.
Aurbach is a professor of fine art at Vanderbilt University, and his independence and social conscience are often expressed in his work as sharp satire of scholarly fads, university culture, surveillance and secrecy. He works in various scales with diverse media, including metal, plexiglass and wood.
The artists’s dozens of awards, fellowships and grants include the Southeastern College Art Conference Award for Outstanding Exhibition and Catalogue of Contemporary Materials, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts Exhibition Award and a National Endowment for the Arts grant for Visual Arts Public Projects.
The Art Gallery exhibit is free-of-charge and open to the public 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
