White House Staff Member Motley to Speak At Samford
White House staff member Dr. Eric L. Motley will address students at his alma mater, Samford University, Thursday (APRIL 1) at 10 a.m. in Reid Chapel. The public is invited. His topic will be "Hope for the Future."
As special assistant to the president and associate director, Office of Presidential Personnel, Motley manages the appointment process for more than 1,200 part-time advisory board and commission positions. Motley, a 1996 Samford graduate who joined the White House staff in 2001, was promoted to his present post in May, 2003. He holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
While a Samford student Motley was president of the Student Government Association and chaired the Samford Speakers Series. Students Austin Bourgeois of Brentwood, Tenn., and Matt Harrison of Huntsville are co-chairs of this year's lecture series.
