Our Story

Dr. Craig Funderburg is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Lonnie Funderburg, longtime friends of Samford and the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing.  Dr. Lonnie Funderburg helped us in so many ways, including an occasional interview with a pre-nursing student.  The last student that he interviewed before his death was a young lady named Andee Rykse.  Craig wrote to me a few days ago to say that his mother was recently placed at Princeton Medical Center.  When Craig called the phone in the room to check on his mom, she passed the phone to her student nurse:  Andee Rykse.  As Craig said to me, "When my father inteviewed Andee, he was trying to help her with her educational goals.  He had no thought that, years later, she would be caring for his wife."

The world is still better because of Dr. Lonnie Funderburg.
