Graphic Design Alumnus Wins Gold ADDY Award

Posted by Sean Flynt on 2011-03-31

Samford graphic design alumnus Alex Stoner has won a Gold ADDY award in the American Advertising Federation’s District 7 Competition. The December, 2010, graduate's entry--a Flash-animated banner ad promoting a coffee shop music venue--was the subject of his senior thesis.

The same project won a silver ADDY in local competition in February and will now advance to the national stage of what many consider to be the world's most challenging advertising competition. The national ADDY winners will be announced at the AAF National Conference and ADDY Gala Awards Show in Baton Rouge, La. April 14-17.

Reflecting on the influence of his Samford professors, Stoner emphasized that their commitment and availability extended far beyond the classroom. "Week after week they would keep their office doors open and stop whatever they were doing to assist students, no matter how big or small the issue was," Stoner said. "That is what makes an education great; when you can really count on your professors to commit to you their wisdom and passion for what you are studying."
