Homecoming Celebration Nov 5-7 Has “Sweet Home Samford” Theme

Samford University will celebrate homecoming the weekend of Nov. 5-7 with a schedule filled with activities for alumni, students, parents and friends.  The theme will be “Sweet Home Samford.”

Highlights will include the annual homecoming banquet Friday, Nov. 6; a full day of reunions, meals, and other events including the Samford-Wofford College football game Saturday, Nov. 6; and the annual homecoming worship service Sunday, Nov. 7.

Ann Thornton Field, a Philadelphia attorney and civic leader, and William Stevens, chief executive officer of Motion Industries, an international parts replacement and service company headquartered in Birmingham, will be honored as Alumni of the Year.  Field is a member of Samford’s class of 1977 and Stevens is a 1970 graduate

Graduates Ted Alling, Barry Large and Allan Davis, members of the class of 2000, will be recognized as Young Alumni of the Year.  They are owners of Access America Transport, a Chattanooga, Tenn., trucking company expected to gross almost $100 million in business this year.

Several traditional activities will have adjusted formats and new locations this year, according to David B. Goodwin, director of alumni and parents programs.

The Golden Bulldogs brunch for graduates of 50 years ago or more will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the home of Samford President Andrew Westmoreland and his wife, Jeanna. Alumni with brunch reservations will park on campus and ride a shuttle to the event. 

The Golden Reunion class of 1960 will hold its luncheon Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Flag Colonnade of Beeson University Center.

New events will include a Coffee Talk with Randy Adamy, founder of O’Henry’s Coffee in Birmingham, at 5:30 p.m. and a Samford OperaWorks Cabaret at 8:30 p.m., both Friday.
