Posted by Mary Wimberley on 2008-05-30

Samford University will begin summer classes Monday, June 2. About 1,122 students are expected for the first summer term. A second term will begin July 7.

Monday will be the first day of study for the inaugural class in the doctor of nursing practice degree offered by Samford's Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing. Thirty men and women are enrolled in the post-master's doctoral program, which features specialized study in advanced practice nursing, administration and education.

Some Samford students are earning summer credits away from campus, such as in Germany, France and Spain. The largest contingent is the 44 students who will study Spanish language and culture for four weeks in Madrid, with a trip to Granada in southern Spain. Some will also tack on another month in Salamanca, in northern Spain.

New Samford students looking ahead to fall enrollment as freshmen will participate in one of four orientation sessions during June.

The summer schedule also includes many conferences and workshops, as well as children's camps devoted to theatre, music and sports.
