Many Samford Students Engage In Missions During Spring Break
Several Samford University student groups are spending portions of their spring break, March 16-20, on mission trips in South Carolina, Louisiana and New York.
The 32-member Samford Ministries Choir is in South Carolina, where its schedule includes performing at East Cooper Baptist Church in Charleston and at a retirement community in Laurens.
In Spartanburg, S.C., they will undertake cleaning and repairs at First Baptist Church, and assist with projects, visit with clients, and present a full concert at Miracle Hill Rescue Mission. Stephen Moss, a junior journalism and mass communication major, is team leader.
Fourteen students are in New Orleans, La., to work with the youth department at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and assist a family with light construction work.
The group also expects to spend time with residents of a nursing home and two AIDS residences, says team leader Lyord Watson, a student at Samford's Beeson Divinity School.
Nine Samford students are in New York City working with Go Forth Alliance and Brooklyn Tabernacle, an inner city church. They will engage in street evangelism, adult tutoring, prayer meetings, and other ministry opportunities. Landon Eckhardt, a senior finance major from Hurst, Texas, is team leader.
