Samford University recognized 1,295 years of combined service spanning five decades during the annual employee service awards luncheon Jan. 12.

William A. Nunnelley, director of media and public relations, was honored for 45 years of service, and Lowell Vann, professor of art, was honored for 40 years of service.

Noting Nunnelley’s role in starting most of Samford’s current university-wide news publications, W. Randall Pittman, vice president for university advancement said, “Bill Nunnelley has had more opportunities to tell the Samford story than anyone else. Through all the changes he has experienced at Samford, he has remained deeply loyal to the university.”

Vann’s faculty colleague Robin Snyder said of his longevity, “He has more energy than all the rest of us combined.”  Vann’s faith is “evident in his everyday life” and his “influence on artists in Birmingham has been vast,” Snyder added.
