Posted by Sean Flynt on 2009-11-03

Samford University's School of the Arts will present an evening of classical guitar music with the Nashville-based Godwin-Thompson Duo Nov. 10. This second event in the university's 2009-2010 Davis Architects Guest Artists Series will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Samford's Brock Recital Hall.

The Godwin-Thompson Duo performs nationally, has recorded two critically acclaimed albums and has been featured on National Public Radio and on television in the US and abroad. In addition to their duo work and individual performances and projects, Mark Godwin and duo partner Robert Thompson serve on the faculty of Belmont University in Nashville.

The Samford concert will feature works by Torroba, Piazzola, Debussy, Albéniz, Bocherinni and others. The concert also will premiere “Danza Cubana,” a new work by Mark Godwin.

The concert represents a homecoming for Godwin, who will perform at his Alma Mater for the first time since his 1983 graduation as the university's first guitar performance major.

Individual concert tickets are available for $20 (adults,) $15 (age 55+,) and $10 (students and children). Series season tickets are $75 (adults,) $60 (age 55+,) and $40 (students and children).

Tickets may be purchased by phone at (205) 726-2853 or online at www.samford.edu/arts/tickets.
