Exhibition Reveals Beauty of Native Clay, Talent of Alabama Ceramic Artists
by Sean Flynt on 2009-09-03
Samford Unversity Art Gallery is presenting the traveling exhibition 1000 Lbs. of Alabama Clay Aug. 17-Sept. 25.
The exhibition features the art of 30 contemporary Alabama ceramic artists, each working with native clay from Miller's Pottery in Brent, Al. The beautiful clay–as much a focus of the exhibition as the work it serves–is dug by hand by the Millers, a multi-generational family of potters.
Curator Lynette K. Hesser distributed the clay to Alabama artists and the Alabama Craft Council is supporting the exhibition of the work it inspired.
The exhibition is open to the public free-of-charge Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
