NASCAR Driver Dale Jarrett to Speak at Samford April 19
NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett will speak at Samford University Thursday, April 19, at 2 p.m. in Reid Chapel. The public is invited. He will visit the campus en route to the Winston Cup Talladega 500 on the following Sunday.
Jarrett will give his testimony and discuss his work on the board of directors of Motor Racing Outreach, which focuses on ministering to the racing community.
Since 1995, Jarrett has produced five straight top-four finishes in championship point standings, including the first Winston Cup Championship of his career in 1999.
His career highlights thus far in 2001 include winning the International Race of Champions (IROC) race, winning pole positions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway, his first victory of the season at Darlington Raceway in March and his second victory of the year at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this month.
The 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup series season will mark Jarrett's seventh year at Robert Yates Racing and his first with UPS as primary sponsor of the #88 Ford Taurus.
Jarrett is also national spokesperson for Samaritan's Purse "Operation Christmas Child," a project led by Franklin Graham, and for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. He is host and participant of the Dale Jarrett Lutheran Brotherhood Golf Tournament, which benefits a counseling center in Hickory , N.C.
His Samford talk is part of the school's spring convocation series.
