Birmingham attorneys Judith Crittenden and David H. Marsh received alumni awards Friday (March 15) during annual law reunion weekend activity sponsored by Cumberland School of Law, Samford University.

Crittenden, a 1970 law graduate, and Marsh, a 1981 law graduate, were recognized at the Cumberland National Alumni Association banquet at the Harbert Center.

Crittenden received the Distinguished Alumna Award as a graduate who is outstanding in the practice of law, service to the community and leadership in the profession.

Senior partner in Crittenden & Martin law firm, Crittenden is a nationally recognized family lawyer. In her 30-year career, she has served as the first female assistant district attorney in Jefferson County, the first female to sit as an acting judge in Jefferson County, and the first female president of the Cumberland National Alumni Association.

Marsh received the Volunteer of the Year award as a graduate who has provided exceptional volunteer service to the law school and its constituents.

A trial lawyer who has handled cases in every Alabama county and before the U.S. Supreme Court, Marsh has served Cumberland when needed. He serves on the Cumberland Annual Fund Steering Committee and is an advisor and presenter for the school's continuing legal education program. He is founder of the firm, Marsh, Rickard & Bryan, P.C.

"These two alumni represent all that is good about Cumberland graduates," said Cumberland Dean John L. Carroll. "Judy represents the pioneering spirit and diligence that characterizes a competent attorney, while David epitomizes the volunteer spirit needed for any organization to succeed. We are extremely proud to honor them."

Law reunion weekend activities also included student trial and moot court competitions, an alumni/student golf tournament, a family reunion picnic and class reunion parties.
