Old Song Sing Along is April 17
BIRMINGHAM---Samford University will host an Old Song Sing-Along Sunday, April 17, at 2 p.m. in Reid Chapel. The event, open to the public free of charge, will feature congregational singing of hymns and familiar gospel songs.
The singing will be under the direction and piano accompaniment of Brad White of Memphis, Tenn. A former accompanist for the James Blackwood Quartet, White accompanied the Blackwood Brothers Reunion Quartet during its appearance at Samford last August.
The program will pay tribute to the legacy of the late Marion W. Easterling of Clanton, composer of more than 300 gospel songs, including "Lord Lead Me On," and "Standing by the River." A member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, Easterling hosted a daily radio program of gospel music on WKLF in Clanton for almost 40 years.
The Samford Campus Ministries Choir and a faculty-staff quartet will present special music.
The popular Sing-Along, first held in 2003, is now a semi-annual event at Samford.
