Lori Northrup has been named associate director and chair of collection/management of Samford University’s library effective Oct. 1. Northrup had been on the library staff since 2002 and reference department chair since 2005. She replaces Suzanne Peterson, who retired in May.
“Lori was identified as the best candidate for this position following a national search,” said University Library Director Kimmetha Herndon. “[We] are fortunate to have someone with such excellent professional credentials, as well as a proven commitment to the Samford mission and community.”
In her new role, Northrup will assist in administering library operations relating to all phases of collection management, acquisitions and fiscal management. She also will work with the Herndon to enhance services, resources and programs.
Northrup received a bachelor of arts degree in English and French from Troy (Ala.) University and a master of library science degree from the University of Alabama. She is Alabama chapter vice president/president-elect of the Association of College and Research Libraries and also is a member of the American Library Association and the Alabama Library Association.
