A trial team from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law went undefeated to win a regional tournament last weekend and qualify for national competition.
Team members Ashley Reitz of Birmingham, Josh Hornady of Monroeville, Ala., and Robert Price of Pensacola, Fla., finished as the only undefeated team at the event, held in Jackson, Miss., Feb. 12-14.
The Cumberland students defeated teams from law schools at Barry University, Florida State University, Stetson University, the University of Alabama and Mississippi College to compile a perfect 5-0 record.
Tuscaloosa attorney James H. Roberts, Jr., is team coach. As a Cumberland student in the 1990s, he was chief of the law school’s trial advocacy board.
The Cumberland team will represent the region, consisting of law schools in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi, in national trial competition in Dallas, Texas, in late March. The competition is sponsored by the Texas Young Lawyers’ Association and the American Bar Association.
