For the second consecutive year, Samford University’s Step Sing will be available worldwide via a live online stream. Step Sing is a student-produced show, dating to the 1950s, which involves more than 1,000 students annually.

The Step Sing live stream will be Saturday, Feb. 16, with the pre-show beginning at 6 p.m. CST and the show beginning at 7 p.m. CST. The cost for the live stream is $12 and will be available at www.samford.edu/stepsing.

Tickets for the three Feb. 14-16 Step Sing performances and the Feb. 16 live streaming go on sale Feb. 1.

With Step Sing tickets in high demand, the online stream allows those without a ticket to the event to watch the Saturday night show and awards live, according to Beth Roller, Samford’s director of student activities and events.

“The committee felt that with such a high demand for tickets that a live stream would be a great option for people who lived too far to travel or could not get tickets,” Roller said. “The live stream allows parents, or even students who are traveling abroad, to share in this great Samford tradition.”

This year’s live stream has some new features, including a pre-show before the event begins. The pre-show will give viewers a look at the history of Step Sing and a preview of the 2013 show and some of the individuals competing.

“The show will cover the on-campus experience and allows people who are away from campus a view into the week leading up to the show and the show itself,” Roller said.

“In addition, the live stream will give viewers the option of electronically downloading this year's printed program that provides information on the history of Step Sing and descriptions of each participating group this year,” said Renie Moss, Samford’s assistant dean for campus life.

The live stream will also use upgraded equipment to provide a higher quality experience for viewers.

The live stream also will be available Feb. 16 in Brock Recital Hall for $10 per person. The Samford University Office of Admission will also host a viewing of the show for prospective students.
