Samford University will host its annual journalism and communication workshop for high school students Thursday, Sept. 17.
The program will include writing, editing and production sessions, professional reviews of student submissions, career advice from media professionals and sessions for teachers and advisors.
Veteran Birmingham newscaster Jim Dunaway of CBS 42 will give the keynote address at 9:15 a.m.
Morning sessions will cover writing for newspaper, magazine, sports and television.
Afternoon sessions on production and operations will include such topics as newspaper and magazine layout, photojournalism, television production, staff organization, story ideas, legal issues and interviewing. There will also be time for critiques of individual print and broadcast submissions.
Registration check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. in Brock Recital Hall. The day's program will end at 2 p.m. Lunch will be available for purchase on campus.
Registration is $4 per student. Advisors may attend for free.
