Anna WorthSamford University student Anna Worth has been named Hospice Volunteer of The Year by Amedisys Hospice Care.

Worth is a senior biochemistry major, and was presented the award for her demonstration of commitment in time and the amount of responsibilities she assumed.  Her work with the hospice center, their patients and families, and her inspiration to others in the community were also factors in winning the award.

“It takes a special person to do what they do every day,” says Bill Borne, CEO of Amedisys.  “A person with a mission, or a calling, that inspires them to go beyond doing just a job.”

Amedisys, Inc. is a health care company that delivers personalized health care services to patients and their families, in the comfort of patients' homes.

Worth was nominated by her peers for the honor and received the award during Amedisys’ 2011 Spirit of Excellence Recognition Dinner in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“This award was a complete surprise. I wasn't even aware there was an award for volunteering and had no clue that I had been nominated.”  Worth said.   “I was honored to receive this award, but the relationships I have developed with the patients and their families remain the biggest reward of all.”

Anna hopes to attend medical school next year.
