Former U.S. attorney Doug Jones will speak at Samford University Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. in Reid Chapel. The public is invited.
Jones is a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Jeff Sessions. In May, Jones successfully prosecuted Thomas E. Blanton, Jr., for the 1963 bombing of Birmingham's 16th Street Baptist Church.
As an appointee of former President Bill Clinton, Jones served as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama from November 1997 until early June. He is now a member of the Birmingham law firm of Whatley Drake. He is a graduate of Samford's Cumberland School of Law.
Jones' address is sponsored by the Samford Pre-Law Society.
