A communications workshop for high school students will be held at Samford University Thursday, Sept. 13. The event is cosponsored by the Samford Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Alabama Press Association Journalism Foundation.
The program begins at 8:30 a.m. with a panel of professionals who will discuss their careers. Panelists include Jennifer Jackson, account manager, Slaughter Hanson Advertising; Fran Curry, WVTM TV anchor/news reporter; Carole Cain, director of human resources, Southern Progress Corp.; and Kevin Scarbinsky, lead sports columnist, The Birmingham News. Dana Dews, a senior journalism and mass communications major at Samford, will moderate.
Morning and afternoon session topics cover basic newspaper, advanced newspaper, magazine, photojournalism and broadcasting. The workshop will conclude at 1:50 p.m. Lunch will be available on campus.
