All area residents are invited to participate in an American Cancer Society Relay for Life sponsored by Samford University April 27 and 28.
Relay for Life, a signature fundraiser for ACS, is a 12-hour overnight event in which teams of 10 to 12 people will take turns walking or running laps around the Seibert Stadium track. Teams may be neighbors, friends, work associates or families.
The event begins with an opening lap walked by cancer survivors at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 27. During a 10 p.m. luminary ceremony, all participants will share in a special candle lighting ceremony to remember those who have been affected by cancer.
Throughout the Relay, participants will enjoy entertainment, food, games and camaraderie. Tents will be set up on the football field so team members can take turns walking and resting during the night. The event ends at 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 28.
Samford is the first university in the state to host a Relay for Life event for students and community residents. The event is the only Relay for Life scheduled in Homewood this year.
For information on how to participate, contact Relay student chairman Zeb Simpson at 726-2022 or Samford director of community service Jennifer Dunn at 726-2031.
