Samford University will host a communications workshop for high school students
Thursday (SEPT. 12) 8:30 a.m.-1:50 p.m.
The annual event is co-sponsored by the Samford Department of Journalism and
Mass Communication (JMC) and the Alabama Press Association Journalism Foundation.
A morning careers panel will feature professionals who will discuss their
work. Panelists are: Ross Mitchell, director, creative marketing group, University
of Alabama at Birmingham; Fran Curry, anchor/news reporter, WVTM TV; Laurie
Stroud, editor, Birmingham Christian Family magazine; Kevin Scarbinsky, sports
columnist, The Birmingham News. Lora Densford, a senior JMC major at Samford,
will moderate.
Classroom session topics will include basic and advanced newspaper writing,
layout and advertising, magazine writing and layout, photojournalism and broadcast
news.
Lunch will be available on campus. Fee is $3 per person. Registration deadline
