Samford University students will present Step Sing, the school's most endearing
and enduring campus tradition, Feb. 21-23. Performances are at 7 p.m. in Wright
"Celebrating the Past, Reaching for the Future" is the theme of the
annual student-produced show, in which 12 groups will compete for honors based
on music, choreography and creativity. The theme celebrates the 160th anniversary
of the school's founding in 1841.
Opening night, Feb. 21, is designated as alumni and community night, with emphasis
on a service project for Jessie's Place, a residence for women and children.
Anyone attending a performance is encouraged to donate cash, which will be collected
each night of Step Sing. The performing groups will vie to contribute the most
items such as backpacks, school supplies and other materials that can be used
by residents of Jessie's Place.
Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster at 715-6000. Admission prices
are $8 and $12 for the Thursday performance and $10 and $14 for the Friday and
Saturday shows. Proceeds support a student scholarship program. For information,
call the Samford Student Government Association office at 726-2868.
