Samford University and Alagasco will join hands this spring
to build a Habitat for Humanity house in Irondale.
Samford students and employees of both institutions will work together to construct
the dwelling during March and April. Groundbreaking for the home at 2023 Third
Avenue South in Irondale will be Monday, March 4, at 11 a.m.
"The Habitat staff looks forward to partnering with Samford University and
Alagasco, who share our vision of eliminating substandard housing," said Charles
Moore, president and chief executive officer of Greater Birmingham Habitat for
Humanity.
"Their commitment to improve the quality of life in this area is obvious through
past partnerships with Habitat. Our mission is to provide safe, affordable housing
to those in need and the upcoming Samford/Alagasco partnership is a perfect
example of mission in action."
Samford students, faculty and staff provided volunteer funds and labor to build
a Habitat house in Fairfield last school year. Alagasco also has been involved
in supporting the Habitat program for 10 years.
This spring's Habitat project will provide housing for a family of five currently
residing in Irondale.
Volunteers from the community interested in working on the Samford/Alagasco
house should contact Jennifer Dunn at 726-2345 or E-mail habitat@samford.edu.
