Samford University’s Department of Geography will host a symposium on
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Wednesday (NOV. 19), 3:30-5:30 p.m. in
departmental offices on the second floor of Beeson University Center Annex.
The public is invited to learn about the field of GIS, which focuses on computer-based
solutions to problems involved in the collection, synthesis, analysis and communication
of spatially related information within a geographic area. GIS provides tools
for governance, commerce and environmental and social science.
Student GIS projects will be on display. Professional GIS analysts and managers
will discuss GIS activities in a variety of public and private organizations.
