Fourth-grade students from 27 Birmingham schools will attend the Jefferson County Water Festival at Samford University Monday and Tuesday (OCT. 13 and 14).
About 1,738 students and their teachers will learn basic groundwater concepts through fun and innovative messages of environmental stewardship and awareness. The schedule includes classroom sessions and hands-on, water-related experiments and activities, all held in the Samford Sciencenter. Students from 12 schools will attend the Monday sessions and students from 15 schools will attend on Tuesday.
The program is sponsored by the Birmingham Board of Education, the Storm Water Management Authority, Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, Samford’s biology department and Vulcan Materials Center for Environmental Stewardship and Education, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service.
