International mission consultant Rev. Dr. Lauran Bethell will speak on the sexploitation of women and girls at a luncheon Friday (OCT. 24) sponsored by Samford University’s Christian Women’s Leadership Center (CWLC). The event will be at noon at First Light emergency shelter for homeless women and children, located at 2230 4th Avenue North.
Dr. Bethell has received international awards and acclaim for her work as founder of the New Life Learning Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The center offers young tribal women an opportunity to receive an education and vocation training in order to have alternatives to prostitution and other forms of exploitation.
As an international consultant for the American Baptist Churches, International Ministries, she initiates and encourages projects to deal with the sexploitation and abuse of women and children.
