Motivational speaker Rudy Ruettiger will speak at Samford University Monday (OCT. 27) at 2:30 p.m. in Wright Center Concert Hall. The public is invited free of charge.
Ruettiger’s personal story of triumph over adversity is the basis for the 1993 film Rudy.
The film chronicles how Ruettiger achieved his dream to play football at Notre Dame University. In the last 27 seconds of his only play of his college football career, Ruettiger sacked the opposing quarterback as fans cheered. He is the only player in the school’s history to be carried off the field on his teammates’ shoulders.
He recently founded a foundation which seeks to help children build self-esteem, reach their full potential and become positive role models for other children.
Ruettiger’s talk is sponsored by the Samford School of Business as part of its Gerow Hodges Speaker Series, founded to bring business and government leaders to campus to enrich the educational experience.
