Sherron Watkins, former Enron Corporation vice president, will speak at Samford University Thursday (FEB. 19) at 10 a.m. in Reid Chapel.
In 2001, Watkins identified accounting irregularities in the company, warning then-CEO Ken Lay that Enron “might implode in a wave of accounting scandals.”
She has testified before Congressional committees investigating Enron’s demise, and has been lauded for her courageous actions. She was named a 2002 Person of the Year by Time magazine.
Watkins is a co-author, with journalist Mimi Swartz, of Power Failure, the Inside Story of the Collapse of Enron.
She will speak at Samford as part of the regular student convocation schedule. Her visit is co-sponsored by Samford’s Davis Special Speakers Series and the School of Business Ethics Convocation Series.
