More than 800 family members are expected to attend Family Weekend events at Samford University this weekend (OCT. 1-3). Registrations have been received from as near as Homewood and from as far away as New York. Friday's activities include afternoon registration check-in and a student talent showcase at 7:30 p.m. in the dining hall. A dessert reception will follow.
Saturday's schedule includes a golf outing at Eagle Point Golf Course, and a Samford Symposia featuring the latest information on programs and opportunities for students. Topics include the London program, career development, and student ministries. Families can enjoy presentations in the library and the Planetarium.
The annual Parents Association meeting will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. Parents Association president Jim Edwards of Montgomery will preside. He is the father of two Samford students, Carrie, a senior, and Mallory, a sophomore.
A barbecue dinner and pep rally will precede the 6 p.m. football game in Seibert Stadium. The Samford Bulldogs will take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
Samford students and their families will participate in a worship service in Reid Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, and enjoy lunch in the University Center cafeteria.
Events will conclude Sunday afternoon with an Old-Song Sing-Along at 2 p.m. in Reid Chapel. The afternoon of congregational singing will feature great hymns and longstanding gospel favorites.
