Alabama's three appellate courts will hear oral arguments at Samford University Thursday, April 21, in Wright Center. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The event marks the first time that all three courts have met at the same place away from Montgomery.

The Wright Center will open at 8:45 a.m. for the public to be seated.

The Alabama Supreme Court will hear arguments in Ware v. Timmons, a medical malpractice case on appeal from the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, at 9:25 a.m.

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals will hear arguments in a capital murder case, Barber v. State, at 10:30 a.m.

The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals will hear a zoning appeal case, Squires v. City of Saraland, at 12:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Samford's Cumberland School of Law and the Birmingham Bar Foundation.

More than 500 students from area schools are expected to attend.

Cumberland last hosted the Alabama Supreme Court in session in 2002.
