Although student spirit activities have occurred all week, Samford University's annual Homecoming gets into full swing Nov. 14 with a student-sponsored Homecoming Ball. Two full days of events follow Nov. 15-16, with hundreds of alumni, parents and families expected to join students and employees for the weekend.

The ball is scheduled from 8-11 p.m. in Seibert Gym. The Homecoming court will be presented, and the 2013 Homecoming Queen and King will be announced. Although various dances have been held on previous homecomings, this is the first time in several decades and the first-ever formal ball.

A full weekend of reunions kicks off Friday with the Golden Bulldog luncheon for graduates from 1963 and earlier.  The class of 1963 will have several events during the weekend to celebrate their 50th anniversary, highlighted by a luncheon Saturday.

Other classes planning reunion events during the weekend are 1983, 1988, 1998, 2003 and 2008. Several departments and other organizations will have events, with most scheduled as part of the pre-game tailgate festivities on the University Quadrangle. Chi Omega sorority has several events planned during the weekend as part of a 50th anniversary celebration.

The annual homecoming banquet on Friday evening is set for 6:30 p.m. in the University Dining Hall. The 2013 alumni of the year and outstanding young alumnus awards will be presented, and the new officers of the Samford Alumni Association will be announced.

The homecoming parade will wind its way through the campus beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Athletics also will be prominent during the weekend. Samford's volleyball team plays key Southern Conference matches with Furman University Friday and Wofford College on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. in Pete Hanna Center. The football Bulldogs play Southern Conference rival University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Saturday at 2 p.m. in Seibert Stadium.

Although advance reservations were required for some reunion events, McGuire said everyone should be able to find something fun to do during the weekend, according to Molly McGuire, Samford's interim director of alumni programs.
