The Alabama Men's Hall of Fame calls for nominations for its 2013 induction class. Deadline for nominations is March 15.
The Hall of Fame annually recognizes men who are native to or are identified closely with the state of Alabama, and who have made significant contributions on a state, national or international scale. Nominees must have been deceased for at least two years.
Established by the State of Alabama in 1987, the Hall of Fame is housed in Samford University's Harwell G. Davis Library.
Sixty-eight men have thus far been honored with induction. Longtime business executives and civic leaders Andrew Gerow Hodges and William R. Ireland, Sr., were inducted in 2012. Other honorees include Tom Bevill, Wynton M. "Red" Blount, George Washington Carver, Howell Heflin, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and Raphael Sims.
A nomination form and a list of all inductees can be found on the Alabama Men's Hall of Fame website: www.samford.edu/groups/amhf. Nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee and the Hall of Fame board of directors. The formal induction ceremony and luncheon will be held in Birmingham in September.
Nominations must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2013, and mailed to Alabama Men's Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 292307, Samford University, Birmingham, AL 35229.
