Full time employees may use up to three days (per occurrence) of their accrued sick leave to attend or arrange funerals for the members of their immediate families.
Immediate family is limited to spouse, child, parent, step-parent, sibling, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparent, and grandchild.
You should notify your supervisor as soon as possible when taking leave due to death in the family.
Upon return to work an official record, obituary notice, or other form of documentation to substantiate the request for paid leave may be required.
Funeral Leave Frequently Asked Questions
I need additional days off work for travel time. Can I use vacation time to cover these days?
Yes. You may use vacation time if you need additional time off for travel. Please coordinate this time with your supervisor.
I want to attend my friend's funeral. Can I use funeral leave for this?
No. If you have been approved by your supervisor to attend, you will need to use vacation time to attend a friend's funeral.
Whom do I give the obituary notice upon my return to work?
Please give the documentation to your immediate supervisor.
