Marketing Your Major: How your degree can help prepare you for the job market
In pursuing your degree at Samford, you have gained knowledge not only about your subject matter, but your coursework and co- and extra- curricular activities have provided you the opportunity to develop transferrable skills that potential employers will find valuable.
Understanding your transferrable skills can help you evaluate work environments and jobs that you may be qualified for based on your experiences and knowledge. As you review job postings and related qualifications, you may be able to identify opportunities that will expand the career applications for your degree.
Below is a link to a worksheet which lists transferrable skills valued by employers regardless of industry. As you think about these skills, consider how your coursework, papers, presentations, special research projects, etc., may demonstrate your ability and experience to a prospective employer. This can be a very helpful exercise to reflect on specific activities and achievements for your reference when creating your resume or preparing for an interview. You may want to review this worksheet with a faculty member in your department or your academic advisor.
